This restaurant and bar has indoor and outdoor seating available, right at the edge of the square in front of the Popes' palace in Avignon.  This makes for good people watching, but outside it can also be noisy due to street performers.  I was there with a group, all diverse tastes were met admirably.  They have the usual starter-entree to entree-dessert deals, or you can go a la carte.

I had a starter and entree.  To start, two panna cottas, one cow cheese and one goat.  Rich but delicious.  The swordfish and couscous entree was cooked perfectly and was just the right amount for after such a heavy appetizer.  Others in my group had scallops and those who got dessert enjoyed many seasonal things featuring apricots or peaches.

See photo; obviously biggest tourist trap around
Do yourself a favour and go to 46 bistro in next street
In fairness they did take it off the bill, But  that's not the point
THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE SERVED IT TO START WITH.

This restaurant is right in front of the palace and not only provides a wonderful atmosphere but delivers very good quality French style food. I had the cheese platter which had a nice variety of high end selection paired with a beautiful glass of chateaupneuf de pape.  Followed by a wonderful duck with polenta and zucchini. Fantastic! Virtually cooked to perfection with minimal fat. The service was wonderful and most waiters(es) spoke enough English to make for an easy and enjoyable experience.

Pretty crap service!  Great views since this place is right on the Place du Palais so a great place for afternoon people watching but...ugh...our server was the biggest dick wad.  We sat down and I guess he was changing shifts so he basically yelled at us to pay even before we got our drinks.  I can see the place being super touristy and the server being annoyed at having to serve tourists all day long but ugh...not need to be a dick man.

Located right on the Place du Palais, evening dining is against a backdrop of the Papal Palace lit by the setting sun. With plenty of outside tables, this is a great al fresco choice, offering a front row seat for people watching. Despite the location, this is no tourist trap. You rub shoulders with after work business folk, and other locals. As well as the a la carte, there is a 32EUR three course menu in the evening, and a 23EUR lunch menu. Serious cheffing goes on in the kitchen. For mains we had cod with caponata and courgette and parmesan sauce, and a super tasty tranche of veal with asparagus and goat cheese cannelloni. Desserts were a revelation - stewed apricot with vanilla cream and cherry clafoutis; and a marvellous reinvented tiramisu, a creamy blanket over candied fruit soaked in liqueur. With a glass of wine and coffee with petits fours, our bill for two was 76EUR.
